Quick answers to the questions we’re asked most often.
Is there an outdoor pool at Sandyhills Bay?
No. Sandyhills Bay does not have an outdoor pool or an indoor pool. The beach is the park's defining feature and the on-park footprint has been kept deliberately light around that. There is an indoor swimming pool at Barend a short drive away if a swim is a must. Alternatively, our sister parks Seaward and Kippford View both have seasonal heated outdoor pools.
Is there a games room or entertainment programme?
No, there's no TV or games room and no on-park entertainment programme at Sandyhills. The park is deliberately low-key. The beach, the Colvend Coast path and the Clachan Inn are the standard day out.
How close is the park to the beach?
Very close. The park sits directly behind the dune line of Sandyhills Bay. From most pitches and pods, the beach is a short walk along a dune-edge path.
When is the park open?
The park is open from 1 April (or Easter if earlier) until 31 October.
I booked when the website was sandyhillsbaycaravanpark.co.uk, is my booking OK?
Yes. The park has simply moved its website to brighousebayholidaypark.co.uk/sandyhills-bay/. Same park, same team, same position on the bay, same bookings. If you have any questions about an existing booking, please contact the park directly.
What time can I check in?
Check-in times vary by accommodation type:
- Self-catering holiday homes: from 4.30pm
- Glamping pods: from 4pm
- Touring and camping pitches: from 1pm
If you arrive earlier and your accommodation is ready, you're welcome to move in. If it isn't, please use park facilities while we get it ready. If you're running late or timing your drive around the tide table, please call the park ahead of time.
What time is check-out?
Check-out times vary by accommodation type:
- Self-catering holiday homes: by 9am
- Glamping pods: by 10am
- Touring and camping pitches: by 11am
You're welcome to use park facilities for the rest of the day after check-out.
Is there parking?
Yes. Every pitch and holiday home has car space alongside, and there's extra visitor parking at reception for second vehicles and day guests. Worth noting: from most pitches the beach is a shorter walk than the car, so once you've unloaded you rarely need to move it until departure.
Is the park easy to find?
Yes. Sandyhills Bay is signposted off the A710 Solway Coast Road between Rockcliffe and Dalbeattie, opposite the Clachan Inn in Sandyhills village. See /sandyhills-bay/how-to-find-us/ for full directions.
Are dogs welcome?
Yes. We love dogs and welcome them throughout the park. Up to two dogs are permitted in pet-friendly self-catering holiday homes (please mention you're bringing a dog when you book so we can place you in the right unit). All our wooden glamping pods are pet-friendly. Touring guests can bring dogs at a nightly rate. Doggy bags are available in the shop.
Can dogs go on Sandyhills Bay beach?
Yes. Sandyhills Bay is a dog-friendly beach year-round, though local seasonal signage may apply to a short section near the village end in peak summer, please check on arrival. Some children and adults are scared of dogs, so we ask that all dogs are kept on a lead on the park and in the surrounding area. Please pick up after your dog.
What are the rules for dogs in self-catering holiday homes?
Maximum two dogs per unit. Please bring a bed or cage for your dog. Dogs aren't allowed on seating or beds. Dogs must never be left alone in the accommodation. If anyone in your party has allergies, we strongly recommend booking accommodation that doesn't accept pets.
What about assistance dogs?
Assistance dogs are welcome (with Identification Book or appropriate evidence from Assistance Dogs UK) and are exempt from charges. They must be kept on a lead and are allowed in all park facilities.
Where can I find tide times for Sandyhills Bay?
Tide times for Sandyhills Bay are posted at reception and at the shop, and are easily found online. The Solway has a large tidal range and the sand can appear and disappear quickly, it's worth a glance at the table before you set out.
Is it safe to swim at Sandyhills Bay?
