Self-Catering Holidays at Sandyhills Bay

Holiday homes to let on the Solway coast, a short walk from Sandyhills village and the bay.

A self-catering week at Sandyhills Bay sounds like this: tide times pinned to the fridge, wet swimsuits on the washing line by Sunday afternoon, sand quietly colonising the hallway by Tuesday. The first morning’s coffee is on the decking with oystercatchers working the wet sand thirty metres away. Someone has already gone for the paper. The crabbing buckets are stacked by the door in order of preference.

The park is small and deliberately low-key. No pool, no entertainment team, no reason to leave the beach for very long. On site you’ll find a small shop for the essentials, a launderette for the inevitable sandy everything, and a heated shower block. Dinner at the Clachan Inn in Sandyhills village is walking distance. The Colvend Coast path, Rockcliffe’s tidal causeway to Rough Island and Dalbeattie Forest are all within a short drive. The rest of the week plans itself around the tide.

The Park, the Beach, and Why the Two Overlap

The Park, the Beach, and Why the Two Overlap

Sandyhills Bay doesn’t try to be an entertainment complex, because the bay is already doing that job. From the pitch to the sand is a walk you’ll stop counting. From the sand to the pub is another five minutes. The on-park footprint is deliberately small. A shop for the essentials, a launderette for the sandy towels, a heated shower block. That’s on purpose. If you’re looking for a pool and a kids’ club, one of our sister parks may suit you better. If you’re looking for a week where the beach is the schedule, you’ve found the right park.

Sandyhills Bay & the Colvend Coast Path

Sandyhills Bay & the Colvend Coast Path

Sandyhills Bay itself is the first attraction, one of the Solway's finest sandy beaches, with the park sitting on it. The Colvend Coast path runs off the end of the beach in both directions, past rock pools and cliff-top heather, and leads round towards Rockcliffe in one direction and Mersehead in the other.

Beyond the Bay

Beyond the Bay

Kippford sailing village is three miles west by car. Rockcliffe's tidal causeway to Rough Island opens for a window around low water. Dalbeattie Forest's 7stanes mountain biking trails are about six miles inland. And on a clear day, the view across the Solway Firth from the top of the bay picks out the fells of Cumbria.
